The John W. Engeman Theater at Northport announces Auditions for CHILDREN ONLY, for its upcoming production of The Sound of MusicAuditions will be held on Sunday, February 26 at 11:00am and Saturday, March 4 at 3:00pm. 

 

You must call the Box Office at (631) 261-2900 to sign up for an appointment time.

 

We are seeking young performers only between the ages of 6 and 17.

Everyone will sing and read at the audition.  Please prepare 16 bars in the style of the show (you may sing from The Sound of Music).  Details and character breakdown are below.

 

If unable to attend the audition on February 26 or March 4, please send a headshot and resume to Vic DiMonda at vdimonda@engemantheater.com.  You may also include a video with a vocal selection.

ALL ADULT SUBMISSIONS MUST GO THROUGH OUR CASTING AGENTS AT THE WOJCIK CASTING TEAM. 

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

Rehearsals in Northport:  April 29 & April 30 (Children Only)

Rehearsals in NYC: May 02 through May 12 (Full Cast)

Rehearsals in Northport:  May 13 - May 19 (Full Cast)

Previews begin: May 18

Opening Night: May 20

Closing Performance: July 2

Although the plan is for the children to be double cast, they must be available for all performances.

We are seeking the following roles:

  • Liesl von Trapp (mezzo soprano, not a belter, dance, 16)
    The oldest child, blossoming into a young woman. She has a maternal edge to her and cares very deeply for her younger siblings.

  • Friedrich von Trapp (age 14)
    Tough exterior, very much trying to be “the man” of the family. 

  • Louisa von Trapp (age 13)
    Rebellious attitude.

  • Kurt von Trapp (age 10,)
    Gentle and mischievous.

  • Brigitta von Trapp (age 9)
    She is smart and insightful and not at all shy about sharing her observations and opinions.

  • Marta von Trapp (age 7)
    Very sweet and gentle.

  • Gretl von Trapp (age 6)
    The youngest of the children.

  • Rolf Gruber (low tenor/high baritone, dance, adult to play 17)
    He starts as an intimidated telegram delivery boy and changes into a young man with military power. He is Liesl’s suitor; very pleasant yet somewhat aggressive.
